The election of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has set off a wave of protests in Tehran, alleging electoral fraud in support of opposition candidate, Mir-Hossein Mousavi. In response, the police and Basij have violently suppressed protestors through firing into the crowd, using pepper spray, batons and other weapons. There have been mass arrests of numerous opposition leaders, journalists and demonstrators as well as numerous reported deaths including Neda Agha-Soltan, a young girl who was shot to death by what appeared to be a single sniper shot. Her death was caught on camera and spread like wildfire through YouTube and Facebook thus making her the global martyr for pro-democracy protests. I bet this is one of the reasons why the Iranian government has shut down media outlets. They want to keep the atrocities being committed ‘hush, hush’ but they cannot as enough information has already been leaked and we are well aware of the situation. Aaron Rhodes, a spokesperson for International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, urges the government to end restrictions and infringements on civil liberties which can lead to violent and dangerous public confrontations. We need to stand together and voice our opposition to the unjust and inhumane treatment of the Iranian people who want what every human wants, freedom.

I have included a List of those Detained and Killed available to view but keep in mind it isn’t comprehensive due to the strict restrictions on the media.

This video is very graphic and should not be seen by young viewers.
