Feelin the Love

It is easy for a naive blogger to feel overwhelmed as the vast amounts of blogs, information and people explodes on the endless World Wide Web. I know because that is how I felt.

I registered my blog on BlogCatalog.com as I have come to find out that having your blog on a blog directory helps increase traffic which is a goal of most, if not all, bloggers. The homepage of BlogCatalog is filled with so many things to do that I didn’t know where to start. I tend to get migraines when I get overwhelmed and stressed out so I decided to take a step back, continue reading Marketing to the Social Web to get more comfortable with blogging lingo and to get ideas for relevant tags and keywords.

After a few days, I decided to search for “music festivals” as you know that music is a passion of mine. To my delight, I found everything I could possibly desire on the subject. As I browsed different blogs pertaining to music festivals, I found the toolbar at the top of each blog that presented options to share, comment and see related blogs very convenient and useful. This made it easy for a new user (me) to acquire more information through other relevant blogs.

I have come to find that blogging in itself is challenging. Not only do I have to decide what topic to write about, I have to add tags. Adding tags is not as easy as it sounds, you have to think from the viewer’s perspective; What keywords would a person use to search for a blog?  Through talking to various BlogCatalog professionals and reading Marketing to the Social Web, I have learned that adding relevant tags can largely increase the probability of your blog being seen. Marketing to the Social Web has also aided in my learning of blogging lingo as well as ideas for relevant tags and keywords.

Lastly, I wanted to include a quick run-down on what I have been doing during my internship. As promised, I have included my Advertising Project which I mentioned in an earlier blog so feel free to have a look and leave feedback. In addition to blogging, I also have continued to work with Aaron Shapiro on advertising opportunities and strategies. Recently, I have been working with a new addition to BlogCatalog, Selina Jane. She is an important contributor as she provides valuable insight into monitoring company media mentions on the web and I am excited to work with her.
